Do you put off going to the dentist because of stress? While many people feel anxiety about the dentist, routine visits are key to maintaining your oral health and preventing uncomfortable dental problems.
If going to the dentist raises your stress levels, sedation dentistry options at Rudnick Dentistry are a great solution. With sedation dentistry, you can get vital dental treatments while feeling more relaxed. Dr. Rudnick offers safe, dental sedation options when you need them.
Sedation Dentistry Options at Rudnick Dentistry
We offer two main kinds of sedation dentistry in our Palm Beach Gardens office: laughing gas and oral conscious sedation.
Both of these choices are safe for most patients and don’t require general anesthesia, but they do help you feel more at-ease during your visit with us.
Laughing Gas
Laughing gas, also known as nitrous oxide, is a light sedation method that uses a odorless, colorless gas to create feelings of happiness, giddiness, and relaxation. You inhale the nitrous oxide just before your dental treatment. You’ll still be fully conscious, but your stress levels will lower.
Laughing wears off quickly, so you can usually drive yourself home after the appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation
If you have more severe dental anxieties or need a more intensive procedure, oral conscious sedation is a good choice. With this method, you’ll take a pill, such as triazolam, an hour before your visit.
This will make you feel tired, and many patients fall asleep. However, you’ll still be conscious and can speak with our dental team. Oral conscious sedation is a slightly deeper sedation, but you are still awake enough to know what’s going on.
However, you’ll need someone to drive you home from your appointment as the effects take longer to wear off than for laughing gas.
Can You Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry can benefit many patients. It’s generally recommended for anyone who has moderate to severe dental anxieties, as sedation options can make it easier to follow through with appointments.
Sedation dentistry is also a good option if you’re having a dental surgery or similar procedure and want to feel more relaxed.
