What Are Implants?
A dental implant is a replacement tooth option that uses a titanium post as an artificial tooth root. This post goes into your jaw. When it heals, it’s stronger than your natural roots. This creates a stable foundation for attaching replacement teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures.
Implants are commonly used when people have lost one or more teeth. Unlike traditional dentures, dental implants provide unparalleled stability, preventing slipping or discomfort while chewing or speaking. They play a critical role in preserving jawbone health by stimulating the bone and preventing bone loss, which can occur after tooth loss.

Advantages of Dental Implants
While there are other options to restore missing teeth, such as dental bridges, dental implants are increasingly popular because they have many benefits.
Here are some reasons to consider dental implants:
Wondering if dental implants are right for you? Dr. Rudnick can examine your teeth and talk to you about the process.
The Dental Implant Process: Step-by-Step
Here’s how the dental implant process works:
Consultation and Planning | Dr. Rudnick evaluates your oral health, reviews your medical history, and discusses your smile goals. Advanced CBCT imaging is used to determine which implants would help your smile.
Implant Placement Surgery | A titanium implant post is surgically placed into your jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. This post acts as the foundation for your new tooth.
Healing (Osseointegration) | A healing period of 3–6 months is required for osseointegration—the time in which the implant fuses with the jawbone. This creates stability comparable to a natural tooth root. During this time, we’ll schedule regular checkups to monitor your progress.
Attachment of the Abutment | Once the implant has integrated with the bone, an abutment is attached to the post. This small connector piece serves as the base for the custom crown.
Placement of the Custom Crown | A custom-made crown, designed to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth, is placed on the abutment. The result is a seamless and natural-looking restoration.
Final Results and Follow-Up Care | Dr. Rudnick uses guided implant technology to ensure precision and efficiency throughout the process. You’ll leave with a fully functional, natural-looking tooth that enhances your smile and supports your oral health.
By following this detailed process, Rudnick Dentistry delivers long-lasting results and a renewed sense of confidence.
What to Expect After Implant Surgery
Recovery from dental implant surgery is typically straightforward, with most patients experiencing minimal discomfort. Swelling, tenderness, and mild bruising are common in the first few days but can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and cold compresses. Dr. Rudnick will provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth healing process.
During the initial recovery period, it’s essential to stick to a soft-food diet, avoiding hard or chewy items that could disturb the implant site. Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is also crucial; gently brushing and rinsing with an antimicrobial mouthwash can help prevent infection.
Success Rates and Longevity
Dental implants boast an impressive success rate of up to 98%, making them one of the most reliable solutions in modern dentistry. Proper placement, advanced technology, and good oral hygiene are key factors in their success.
With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, offering unparalleled durability and functionality. Their ability to integrate with the jawbone and maintain oral health ensures that they remain a lasting investment in your smile and overall well-being.
CT Scans
Getting Started with Imaging
Before we make recommendations about what kinds of implants to get and how many, we need to holistically look at your smile. We will do an oral exam, listen to your concerns and health history, and then take a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. This high-tech imaging is an essential part of our detailed approach to finding you the right smile.
If you are suffering from any kind of tooth loss or several oral health concerns, a CBCT scan can help us determine:
- The root cause of your tooth loss
- Your bone density
- The health of your remaining teeth
- Where to place implants
- What kind of implants should be placed
Getting the scan is simple. You will either sit or stand while our scanner rotates around your head. It takes around a minute. We can then use the scan to analyze your smile and make recommendations.
Not only do we use CBCT scans to make recommendations during your consultation, but we also use them for guided implants.

Restorations for Dental Implants
We can restore a dental implant with many different kinds of dental prosthetics, making them a versatile solution for tooth replacement. Here are some of our state-of-the-art options for your restorations:
Single Tooth Replacement
Single tooth replacement replaces one or a couple of teeth in different spots. Single tooth replacement is especially helpful if you have suffered from:
Localized infection that a root canal could not help
Trauma that caused tooth loss
Severe cracking or irreparable damage
Dental implants may feel complicated, but we take care of the complicated planning to make your experience simple. A single tooth replacement has three parts, and is a classic example of how the parts of a dental implant work together to help you smile with confidence:
- Titanium Implant: This is the portion of your new tooth that will sit inside your jawbone, providing stability to your restoration. They are hypoallergenic and permanent.
- Abutment: The abutment is the connection between the implant and the crown. Implants are hollow, and the abutment sits inside the implant and has a small ball that sits above the gumline.
- Crown Restoration: The crown will act as the visible part of your new tooth. It will be the surface that you use to chew, and it will match the other teeth in your smile. Your custom crown will attach to the abutment.
Other dental implants that replace more than one tooth function similarly.
Avoiding Unnecessary Replacements
A common alternative to a single-tooth implant is a dental bridge, which relies on healthy nearby teeth to support a replacement tooth, called a pontic. Bridges require that the nearby healthy teeth be permanently altered to support a crown, which can cause discomfort over the years.
Bridges also need more frequent replacements than restorations on dental implants, making them a less convenient option.
A Permanent New Look
Your implant and abutment will be permanent. The crown restoration that acts as your single new tooth may need to be replaced every 10–15 years, depending on use. Replacing your restoration is simple, since our office can remove your crown and then craft a new custom one.
Our office will help you maintain your crown so it lasts its full lifetime.
If you have lost multiple teeth in a row or need your entire arch replaced, we don’t recommend using individual single-tooth replacements for each missing tooth. Instead, we have replacement options for multiple teeth.
Multiple Tooth Replacement
For damage that has affected 3 or more teeth, such as periodontal disease in one area of the mouth or blunt force trauma that caused major tooth loss, implants can support a dental bridge. Traditional dental bridges typically replace a tooth without implants by resting on adjacent healthy teeth to “bridge” a gap left by tooth loss. With implants, it creates an easy way to replace several teeth without using a single implant for every tooth.

How Do Implant-Supported Dental Bridges Work?
Just like single tooth implants, bridges use titanium implants, abutments, and then a restoration. However, Dr. Rudnick will place at least 2 implants to support a bridge of 3 or more teeth. If you are replacing 3 teeth, there will be an implant on either side, and then the replacement tooth.
However, you can do a partial denture that covers more than 3 teeth. Dr. Rudnick will use advanced implant planning to determine how many implants you need to support a partial arch of teeth.
Preserving Your Natural Teeth
One of the benefits of multiple tooth replacement is the ability to preserve your natural, healthy teeth and replace the ones that are no longer functional. This prevents unnecessary costs and tooth removal. We seek to work around your natural teeth by using bridges instead of full-arch replacements when possible.
Snap-On Dentures
Moving away from the hassle of traditional dentures can be freeing. Snap-on dentures replace an entire arch of teeth and offer all the benefits of implants and traditional dentures at the same time. We offer both fixed and removable dentures, which both have their benefits.
What Are Snap-On Dentures?
With snap-on dentures, several implants will be placed throughout your arch of teeth. You won’t need an implant for every tooth you need to replace. Your customized dentures will snap onto the abutments of your implants, allowing for maximum comfort and stability.
We recommend snap-on dentures to those who may have used dentures before and liked their easy removal, but need to prevent loss of bone density.
Benefits of Snap-On Dentures
Snap-on dentures offer an appealing balance between comfort, affordability, and function. Since they anchor to dental implants, they significantly reduce slippage and improve your ability to eat and speak with confidence.
Because they’re removable, they’re easy to clean and maintain at home, which appeals to many patients seeking a more flexible solution. Snap-on dentures also provide support to your facial structure and prevent bone density loss, helping to prevent the sunken look that can come with tooth loss. For patients who want enhanced stability without committing to a fully fixed restoration, snap-on dentures offer a reliable, user-friendly option.
Easy Customization
Our implant process for snap-on dentures involves you and Dr. Rudnick making a decision about how many implants will be needed. Dr. Rudnick will also evaluate what kind of implants would be helpful for you. This allows us to find you a comfortable fit without placing unnecessary implants.
This customization is especially important for those who have lost jawbone density, as we can place extra implants or a different kind of implant to allow you a stable smile.
Snap-On Dentures VS All-on-X
Both All-on-X and snap-on dentures use dental implants for added stability, but they differ in how they function, feel, and fit into your daily routine.
All-on-X Restorations:
Fixed in place—only your dentist can remove them
Designed to feel and function like natural teeth
Provide excellent bite strength and stability
Require consistent oral hygiene, just like natural teeth
Snap-On Dentures:
Removable by the patient for easy daily cleaning
“Snap” onto implants for added security
More flexible and often more budget-conscious
Can be adjusted or upgraded over time
Each option has its own strengths depending on your lifestyle and treatment goals. During your consultation, we’ll help you determine which one aligns best with your needs.
All-on-X Implants
All-on-X is even more customizable than snap-on dentures. Dr. Rudnick can use anywhere between 4–8 implants per arch to support a permanent and non-removable denture. This denture will look and function like natural teeth.
All-on-X dentures don’t slip or wear on your gums, and care for them just by simple brushing. You don’t have to remove them and put them in a denture solution overnight.
We use our CBCT scan to determine how many implants you need, what kind of implants you need, and where they should be placed.

Experience the Ultimate Comfort of All-on-X
The customization and flexibility of our All-on-X treatment have many benefits:
- High Chance of Success | Since Dr. Rudnick can plan for your exact smile, your implants have a high chance of integrating and remaining in your jaw.
- Improved Efficiency | We can place all of your implants at the same time, so you don’t have to come in for multiple surgical procedures.
- Avoidance of Unnecessary Costs | We won’t recommend any implants that are unnecessary, and replacing an entire arch with one treatment is more effective than replacing many individual teeth.
- Shorter Treatment Times | We offer a comfortable temporary denture for you to wear during implant healing, giving you a functional smile back in just a day.
Improved Cosmetics: Not only do we customize where the implants go and how many, but we customize the appearance of your denture to give your appearance a boost.

Candidacy for All-on-X
All-on-X candidacy looks a bit different than other forms of implants and restorations, even snap-ons! For All-on-X, we can often work around some jawbone density loss, which happens after tooth loss. However, similarly to snap-on dentures, we recommend that you have few functional teeth in an arch of your smile, and are willing to extract any remaining teeth in the arch.
Dental Implants vs. Other Options
Dental implants stand out as the superior choice for tooth replacement compared to dentures or bridges. Unlike dentures, implants are permanently anchored to your jawbone, providing unmatched stability and eliminating the need for adhesives. They also restore nearly 100% of your bite strength, allowing you to enjoy a diverse diet without restrictions.
While dental bridges rely on adjacent teeth for support, implants preserve the integrity of your natural teeth by functioning independently. Additionally, implants stimulate the jawbone, preventing bone loss and maintaining facial structure—something dentures and bridges cannot achieve.
The longevity, comfort, and natural appearance of dental implants make them a clear winner for patients seeking a permanent, high-quality solution to tooth loss.
