What is TMJ?
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint. It is the joint that connects your upper and lower jaws with the temporal bones which are located in front of each ear. It controls you jaw’s movements and allows you to talk and chew.
These joint can become misaligned due to injury, damaged teeth, putting extra pressure on the joint through clenching or grinding the teeth, joint deterioration because of arthritis, or tightening of the facial and jaw muscles because of stress. Whatever the cause, the result can be severe pain and discomfort which can be temporary or, more often, long-term.
