Understanding Orthodontics
Orthodontics is the area of dentistry that focuses on straightening your teeth and aligning your jaw. Every method is a bit different, but they all gently push your teeth into pre-planned positions. Each approach is designed to give you optimal oral health and increased aesthetics.
Different kinds of orthodontics prioritize different aspects of orthodontic care. Invisalign is easy to use and incredibly discreet, while FastBraces gives you straighter teeth quickly. Controlled arch braces focus on bite issues. If you are interested in orthodontics, but aren’t sure which one is the right choice for you, Dr. Rudnick offers comprehensive consultations that evaluate your TMJ, your oral health, tooth alignment, and the aesthetics of your smile

Are Orthodontics Right for You?
Orthodontic treatment is not only about straightening teeth—it’s about creating balance, improving function, and protecting your smile long term. Both Invisalign and traditional braces are effective tools for addressing a wide range of alignment concerns, depending on your goals and clinical needs.
Orthodontics can help treat:
Crowded Teeth: When teeth overlap or compete for space, making brushing and flossing more difficult.
Gaps Between Teeth: Spacing issues that affect appearance, bite balance, or food trapping.
Crooked or Rotated Teeth: Teeth that sit at an angle or twist out of alignment.
Bite Issues: Including overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites that affect comfort and wear.
Uneven Tooth Alignment: When teeth don’t line up smoothly, creating an imbalanced smile.
Shifting Teeth: Changes in alignment that occur over time due to age or missing teeth.
Candidacy for orthodontics depends on several factors, including overall oral health, gum stability, and the specific alignment concerns being addressed. Healthy gums and teeth are essential. Any active dental issues typically need to be treated first to ensure predictable results.
During a consultation at our office in Palm Beach County, Dr. Rudnick will evaluate your bite, jaw alignment, and lifestyle preferences to determine whether Invisalign, traditional braces, or another orthodontic approach is the best fit. With the right plan in place, orthodontic care can be both effective and seamlessly integrated into your daily life.
The Benefits of Orthodontic Treatments
Orthodontic care does more than straighten teeth—it creates balance, supports long-term oral health, and enhances how your smile looks and feels. At its best, orthodontics is a thoughtful investment in both function and appearance, helping your smile work comfortably while looking refined and intentional. Whether treatment is completed with Invisalign or traditional braces, the benefits extend well beyond alignment alone.
Our Orthodontic Options in Palm Beach Gardens
Invisalign®: A Comfortable Alternative to Metal Braces
Many people don’t want traditional metal braces. If you’re an adult who needs orthodontics, you may not want to deal with them, as they can be quite noticeable. Luckily, there is another effective option.
Invisalign® is a name-brand of clear aligners. These kinds of braces are similar to retainers, so you can take them off whenever you need. You wear a series of these clear aligners that are custom-made to fit your mouth and slowly move your teeth. Invisible braces are best if you have minimal to moderate orthodontic issues.

Controlled Arch Braces
Controlled arch braces are another state-of-the-art orthodontic option. While controlled arch braces look like traditional metal braces, they work a bit differently. The goal with these braces is to improve the shape of your jaw and teeth to enhance your appearance and reduce bite issues.
This method takes a more holistic approach to orthodontics to enhance your dental health and cosmetics. Learn more about controlled arch braces by setting up a consultation.

Choosing the Right Orthodontic Solution for You
Each orthodontic treatment in Palm Beach County has its benefits and its drawbacks. If you aren’t sure which one will help you the most, an orthodontic consultation with Dr. Rudnick can help you decide. We will take CBCT scans of your face and jaw to evaluate your smile and its needs.
All of our treatments will happen under the guidance of Dr. Rudnick, with a personalized plan that meets your goals. We can even show you a sneak peek of what your smile will look like after treatment, so you can collaborate with our team.
Invisalign is best for those who prioritize the appearance of their teeth, even during orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is faster than traditional braces or controlled arch braces, but are not as fast as FastBraces. They are also convenient, with fewer visits, but you have to be willing to wear your aligners for the recommended time.
Fastbraces prioritizes speed, but requires adjustments at our office. The brackets are visible, but still blend in with your smile, so you can enjoy your smile even during treatment. Instead of removing them like Invisalign aligners, you will have to clean around them, but treatment is much shorter.
Controlled arch braces address issues that Fastbraces and Invisalign cannot. Invisalign and Fastbraces® are best for mild to moderate misalignment and can only adjust some occlusal issues. Controlled arch braces can address more serious concerns, taking strain off your jaw permanently and resolving large overbites or underbites.
Caring for Your Smile During and After Orthodontics
During Orthodontic Care
We will give you clear instructions on how to care for your smile during your orthodontic treatment. Here are some of our recommendations for caring for your smile:
- Invisalign: You will need to wear your clear aligners the recommended amount of time, around 22 hours a day. You should wear them to bed. Remove them to eat and drink anything besides water, and to play sports. Clean them daily and switch aligners when instructed. Brush and floss twice a day like always.
- Fast Braces and Controlled Arch Braces: You will need to attend regular adjustment appointments to maintain your progress. We recommend brushing after every meal, not just twice a day, to prevent food from sticking in your braces. Floss once a day using orthodontic flossers, which you can get from our office. If any brackets pop off, call us for a repair immediately.

After Orthodontic Care
Once teeth are properly aligned, they naturally want to shift back toward their original positions over time. Ongoing care helps protect the investment you’ve made in your smile.
One of the most important steps after orthodontic care is wearing your retainer as recommended. In most cases, nighttime retainers are advised to help keep your teeth in their new positions while still fitting comfortably into your daily routine. Wearing your retainer consistently at night helps preserve alignment without interfering with your lifestyle.
Daily oral hygiene also plays a key role. Brushing and flossing thoroughly helps keep gums healthy and prevents plaque buildup around newly aligned teeth. Because straight teeth are easier to clean, many patients find it simpler to maintain their oral health after orthodontic treatment.
Routine dental visits remain essential as well. Regular cleanings and exams allow your dentist to monitor your alignment, retainer fit, and overall oral health.
